About Jonathan Yorks-My Story

In 1993, a beloved uncle of mine dying from cancer asked me a question that would change my life forever, “Is this it, I’m born, live, die, and fade out of existence? IS THIS IT?”  I was thirty-one years old and in between careers at the time dealing with my own existential crisis of questioning the life worth living.

My response to my uncle came more through me than from me when I said, “You know Uncle Ricky, I have to tell you, if we’re born, live, die, and there is nothing after we die, absolutely NOTHING! Then I’m going to live this life on the beach in the Caribbean, and I’m going to have FUN, FUN, FUN all the way to nothing…but before I do, I better find out.”

My path was set that day. My work reflects what I found.

Guided Steps Toward a Better Tomorrow

You Deserve to Feel Better

Over 98% of my clients and their families have recommended my services, a testament to the trust and connection we build together. Time and again, clients share how our sessions spark meaningful changes, helping them live lives that align more closely with their deepest values. Their progress and stories inspire me to continue my work of guiding others through self-exploration, healing, and personal empowerment.

My Life Philosophy

In my life, I emphasize the importance of mindfulness and self-awareness. Every thought and emotion provides an opportunity for greater growth. This philosophy is reflected in my practice, where my clients discover the power of their minds to heal and transform their lives. My role has always been to show them where their power switch is located and how to turn it on. When we realize we have no wound we cannot heal, no problem we cannot solve, or pattern we cannot change, we find our switch.

Spiritually, I’ve come to rest in the view that we are souls journeying through human lives for the purpose of our personal and collective growth. My life as Jonathan is the vessel I chose that has within it every circumstance meant to guide my growth. Whether challenges arise as physical, mental, emotional, or relational, they invite me to remember that I am a spiritual being here to evolve through human experience. The souls I encounter, my family, friends, acquaintances, and strangers alike, are requested companions on this journey, here to walk with me as I walk with them. Those who test me most deeply are cherished allies playing their roles to help me to awaken to my true Self. When I remember this intention, I discover meaning in my journey, value in our connection, and a quiet peace that fills my heart.”

“You have to grow from the inside out. None can teach you; none can make you spiritual. There is no other teacher but your own soul.”

My Background

My background in Clinical and Spiritual Counseling, along with Hypnosis, has given me a unique set of skills I consider assets for addressing a wide range of challenges. I work with individuals from all walks of life, each bringing their own stories and struggles. This diversity deepens my practice, allowing me to draw from many techniques and approaches. Yet one of my most meaningful counseling moments didn’t come from a technique at all. I offered a client, who was frequently in crisis, a simple peanut butter and jelly sandwich. That small gesture shifted their focus from a mindset of tragedy to one of comfort, calming them enough to respond effectively to their crisis. In that instant, my greatest asset was not my training or skill, but simply my presence as a caring human being.

I recognize the importance of adaptability in my practice. As the landscape of mental health evolves, I stay informed about new research and methodologies. By embracing change, I ensure that my approach remains relevant and effective. For example, after integrating new mindfulness practices into my sessions, I noticed significant improvements in my clients’ ability to manage stress and anxiety. This ongoing evolution in my practice is essential to providing the best care possible.

Empowering clients to take ownership of their healing journey is at the forefront of my work. I encourage them to actively participate in their growth process, fostering a sense of agency and responsibility. One client, after embracing this philosophy, took significant steps to mend relationships that had long been strained. Witnessing their transformation into a more assertive and confident individual serves as a powerful reminder of the potential within us all.

In my practice, I strive to create a nurturing and inclusive environment where every client feels valued and understood. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is fundamental to the healing process. I often use a combination of hypnotherapy and cognitive-behavioral techniques tailored to each individual’s needs. For example, during a recent session, I guided a client through a visualization exercise that enabled them to confront their fears in a safe space, leading to profound breakthroughs and a sense of empowerment.

Professional Networking

Collaboration with other professionals enriches my practice and broadens my perspective. Engaging with fellow therapists allows me to share insights and learn from their experiences. For instance, I recently partnered with a colleague to host a workshop on emotional resilience, which attracted participants eager to learn effective coping strategies. This type of collaboration not only enhances my own skills but also expands the resources available to my clients.
